Broken directory queries with ? wildcards

Hello,

currently I'm facing an issue when using a NetApp hosted windows file share with the standard Windows Backup and Restore tool.

The issue boils down to a "query directory" request being sent to the netapp server of the form:

Backup Set ????-??-?? ??????

And even though a folder exists with a concrete date/time the NetApp server returns an empty result set to the Windows client (which runs Windows Backup & Restore). Sub-sequently this causes misbehavior of Windows Backup & Restore.

The same issue can be reproduced when using a command prompt with the dir command.

Side notes:

- Many other combinations of using * and ? wildcards work but the exact pattern above does not work

- General access including permissions to the share are properly setup

- There is a difference in behavior of the SMB protocol of Windows 7 vs. Windows 10. Windows 7 sents a * wildcard over the network and obviously then locally filters the results based on the actual pattern. So with Windows 7 everything works fine. But opposed to that Windows 10 passes the wildcards over the network as part of the "query directory" SMB request which moves the resolution to the server (i.e.. NetApp) which then misbehaves.

My first simple question to the fourm would be if enyone can reproduce this behavior with a NetApp Windows share and Windows 10?

Thanks

C

Hi

I have a cifs share setup with FULL CONTROL for the user I'm using, and I'm getting this error when trying to use robocopy to copy the permissions

The security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.

I've tried a varity of robocopy commands and none work. The one I'm using looks like this

ROBOCOPY /e /b /xj /r:2 /w:5 /v /it /purge /copyall "\\its-fp1old\f$\Magic Fridge" "f:\Fdfs\Magic Fridge" /xd DfsrPrivate .TemporaryItems /xf .ds_store /tee /log:c:\miglogs\Fmagicfridge.log

and it worked going from a windows cifs share to another windows cifs share, but I can't get it to work with a net app cifs share.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have the same problem, does anybody have already solved it?

Thank you,

M

Is this a NETAPP problem or VMware problem

All Fiber Channel presented LUNS get repeated disconnects and reconnects after vmware reports an error with SIOC. SIOC is not enabled. Hoping We can get support to look at our configuration and determine if we are mis configured.

Hi netapp admins...
I didn't find anywhere, but do you know if it will be possible to lock filenames like readme.* or something similar using the native tool?

Or may I need to use another software to it?

Thanks for any comments on this.

Best regards,

Add ports to VLAN on network switch side  and do Vlan tagging at C mode

Lacp vs multi-mode

Hello everyone:

i've read posts about the comparison between static multimode and lacp.

and i'd like to know how to test the advantage of LACP in our environment.

Please help me to identify whether the method below will work?

1.I connect two 10G ports of the netapp 8060 with two n5k switches

2.In static multimode move the port from the switch to a unconfigured port

3.Then the data ontap cannot detect the link is abnormal

4.Change the mode to lacp and then also move the the port from the switch to a unconfigured port

5.I will see the data ontap can detect the link is down

do you think this method will work, or is there any better method?

Thank you very much!

I don't know what you're trying to acheive exactly, but maybe fpolicy can help with your use case.

Windows 10 loosing connection to CIFS share

We see only Windows 10 clients loosing connection to CIFS shares sporadicly. Failure means something like 'Path is not available' but network seems to be fine as only those Windows 10 client are kicked of the CIFS connection.

Failure started some Windows10 major patch release updates ago.

Ontap Version is             8.1.4P9D18 7-Mode

SMB 2.1 is disabled        smb_enable_2_1 = 0

Any idea where that behaviour could result from?

Thanks, i already saw that, but difference is that we are able to connect but loosing connection sometimes. The wiered thing is that we had no problem at the beginning of Win10 but got that behaviour with some of the patch releases (don't know which exactly).
